Three Months on Our NMN Complex - A Biased Review
Share
Right, so I thought I'd write up my thoughts after three months on our new NMN Complex. Fair warning - I'm obviously biased here since I literally created this product, but that bias only exists because I genuinely believe in what we're doing. I know exactly what goes into these capsules, the purity levels we're hitting, and frankly, I wouldn't put my name on something I didn't take myself.
Quick Background
I'm Mat, 39, founded Healthspan Formulas because I got fed up with the rubbish supplements flooding the market. I'd been taking standalone NMN supplement over a year before we launched our complex - initially just the basic 500mg NMN. But I wanted something more comprehensive, hence the Complex with TMG, resveratrol, quercetin and the other ingredients we've included.
The Past Three Months
So here's the thing - I've been ramping up my training lately. Nothing mad, just trying to get back into decent shape after letting things slide a bit. The timing worked out well because I wanted to see how the Complex held up under a bit more stress.
Just got back from South Africa this week actually - was out there for a wedding which was brilliant but absolutely wrecked my routine. Two weeks away, different time zones, quite a few glasses of wine (alright, more than a few), dodgy sleep, completely different food. You know how it is on holiday - all good intentions go out the window.
Here's the interesting bit though - I actually hit a PB on my 5k whilst I was out there, a tine thays stood for over 6 years. And this was the day after climbing Table Mountain, which isn't exactly a gentle stroll. Now I'm not saying the NMN Complex is some magic bullet that turned me into Mo Farah overnight, because that would be ridiculous. But what I did notice was that my recovery seemed really good despite everything I was putting my body through.
Tweaking the Dosage
On days when I knew I'd pushed it a bit - whether that was training or, let's be honest, a few too many drinks the night before - I'd add an extra 500mg of our standalone NMN on top of the Complex. So some days I was hitting 1000mg total.
Did it help? Yeah, I reckon it did. Those mornings when I should have felt properly rough, I was actually quite alert and generally felt decent. Could be placebo effect, could be the NMN, probably a bit of both. But if it's working, I'm not going to argue with it.
What I've Actually Noticed
Recovery has been the big one for me. I'm nearly 40, so bouncing back from sessions isn't what it used to be. But I've been consistently surprised at how good I've felt the day after pushing myself. Whether that's purely down to the Complex or just getting fitter, I can't say for certain.
Sleep quality seems better too, though that's harder to pin down. I don't track it obsessively or anything, but I'm generally waking up feeling more refreshed. Even during the chaos of the South Africa trip, I felt like I was coping better than I normally would.
Energy levels throughout the day have been pretty solid. No massive peaks and crashes, just a steady feeling of being switched on. Again, could be fitness improvements, could be the supplements, probably both.
The Numbers Don't Lie
This is where it gets interesting. I wear a fitness tracker (nothing fancy, just keeps me honest) and I've been looking back at the data from these three months. My REM sleep duration has increased by about 15% on average, which is pretty significant. I'm getting more of that deep, restorative sleep that actually matters.
Even more interesting is my baseline HRV - that's gone from 91ms to 99ms over this period. For those who don't track this sort of thing, HRV is basically a measure of how well your nervous system is recovering. Higher numbers generally mean better recovery and stress resilience. An 8-point increase might not sound like much, but it's actually quite substantial when you're talking about baseline measurements over months.
Now of course there are other factors at play here. I've been more consistent with training, trying to eat better (when not on holiday anyway), and generally taking care of myself. But the timing does correlate pretty well with starting the Complex, and these are the kind of metrics that don't lie.
Daily Life Beyond Training
It's not just the exercise stuff either. I've noticed I'm handling work stress better - those days when everything's going wrong and deadlines are looming don't seem to knock me sideways like they used to. Could be coincidence, could be that I'm just in a better headspace generally, but I do feel more resilient.
The South Africa trip was actually a pretty good test case for this. Long flights, completely different environment, wedding stress (not mine, thankfully), and then trying to fit in some training while away. Having just got back this week, I can honestly say I feel like I handled it all quite well considering.
I'm Obviously Biased
Look, I'm not going to pretend I'm some neutral reviewer here. I developed this product because I wanted something I'd actually want to take myself. I know the quality of the raw materials, I know the manufacturing standards, and I've got years of experience with NMN supplementation to compare against.
But that's exactly why I'm confident in it. I wouldn't be putting this out there if I didn't genuinely think it was doing something useful. There's too much snake oil in this industry already, and I've got no interest in adding to it.
Going Forward
I'll stick with the Complex as my daily go-to, probably with the occasional extra NMN when I need it. The combination seems to work well for me, and frankly, I like the convenience of not having to take multiple separate supplements.
If you're thinking about trying it yourself, obviously I'd recommend starting with our standard NMN to see how you get on. But if you want the full works, the Complex is where I'd go.
That's about it really. Not the most scientific review you'll ever read, but it's honest at least. Three months in, I'm happy with where things are at.
Cheers, Mat
